About the Artist
In the words of Guild Chairman, Lloyd Washington:
It is with the deepest regret that I must inform you that Morgan Hughes, one of our longest standing and best liked members, passed away last Saturday suffering from pneumonia. All of us who knew him will be deeply saddened at this loss particularly since we have rarely been able to see him over the last 2 years due to covid restrictions and his own poor health. Morgan was one of nature’s gentlemen who was much admired for his character as well as his supreme skill with watercolours. I, and I know many others, thought that he was our best watercolourist in the purest sense of the medium. I have known Morgan to scrap a painting after two washes because they were "not right" He sought perfection in his work and sometimes achieved it. Those of you who have acquired any of his paintings can regard themselves as most fortunate in their choice. Morgan's good nature made him many friends in the Guild and many of us will deeply miss his company at workshops in the future. He was always very modest about his skills and knowledge but always ready to help and advise anyone who asked and was always willing to participate where he could contribute to the running of our workshops. He was the best of people, and I personally will miss his good humoured presence and I know many more of you will too.
As well as having being a member of the Guild of Wiltshire Artists and Wiltshire Artists, Morgan was also a past member of the Fosseway Artists, Lawrence Society of Artists and Swindon Artists Society.
Morgan exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol; Gloucester Cathedral; Montpellier Gallery, Cheltenham; Handel House Gallery, Devizes; and Art West, Hungerford.
