Geraldine Darlington
About the Artist
Geraldine Darlington was recently elected to the Guild in January 2025. Geraldine is a dedicated amateur artist, based in Royal Wootton Bassett. She finds inspiration in nature and people, delighting in experimenting with new materials, subjects and approaches. She likes to explore texture and movement in art. She loves to work with other artists, exchanging ideas, viewpoints and techniques.
At school, she was unable to timetable art into her academic schedule and therefore enrolled at the Gamble Institute, attending art classes every Saturday. Following a career in science and engineering, which left little time for art, she taught silk painting for the Workers’ Education Authority. Later, she became a lecturer in Higher and Further Education, specialising in Business Studies, Accounting and Finance, and Fashion and Textiles. Since retirement she has become very active as an artist, both as a member of art groups and undertaking many courses to improve her skills and knowledge
Although she has rarely exhibited, Geraldine has undertaken a few private commissions and sold paintings for charity. One of her abstracts was selected to be shown at MOMA (NY) following the course on Abstract Expressionism. A number of her paintings achieved both long and short listings in the SAA's Artist of the Year competitions.
