John Lafford
About the Artist
John started painting in his early twenties when he was inspired by paintings of titled ladies in silks and finery that he had seen in stately homes. He went on to study the history of painting, and paintings in all the major art galleries of the world.
John's early works were executed in oils, copying the great master - Rembrandt and Titian. His aim has been to accurately represent the texture of skin, hair and materials - silk, fur, feather, felt, tweed, polished leather, glass, wood, brass and canvas.
However John also likes to include impressionist representations in fabrics and bacdrops.
John has painted a wide range of subjects starting with portraits, but also including still life, animals, landscapes, flowers, houses, ships and aircraft.
John has worked in oils, watercolours, acrylics and panpastel, selecting the most appropriate medium to suit the subject.
John lists some of his favourite artists as; Rembrandt, Rubens, Titian, Velasquez, Van Gogh, Constable, Gainsborough, Monet, Manet, Renoir and Singer Sargent, to name just a few!
