About the Artist
"There is sweet music here that softer falls than petals from blown roses on the grass" - Tennyson
The west coast of Ireland is renowned for its light. This is where I grew up amidst beautiful landscape and big skies at every turn. Unexpected moments of dappled sunlight creating awesome patterns of light/shade can transform the wild rugged countryside, open spaces or rippling brooks that I am so familiar with.
In my paintings I like to interpret this visual beauty to convey isolation, silence, stillness - an ambient quiescence.
After work - midwifery lecturer - I relaxed by painting initially in watercolour. I studied at the Swindon College of Art expanding into acrylic and, later on, into pastel and oils.
